D80sV #88: The Clash - The Magnificent Seven (Live)

Daily 80's Video #88: Here's the first of many to come, Clash songs. "Magnificent Seven" is a driving, almost rap song off The Clash's Sandinista album. Strummer, Jones, Simonon, and Headon are on their game as they deliver this powerfully charged song about, well, a whole lot of stuff. Apparently Joe Strummer wrote it on the spot, stream of conscious style, about the working class, various historical figures, and today's ad-driven society. When the Clash came to America in 1980 they discovered the emerging American music genre rap, with artists like Grand Master Flash and The Furious Five and the Sugar Hill Gang. Obviously this new genre was a huge influence on this song. Enjoy the magnificent Clash! RIP Joe Strummer. Get some D80sV merch. Or maybe curl up with a good ebook. Go to next D80sV.
