D80sV #137: The Pretenders - Middle Of The Road (Live Aid 1985)

Daily 80's Video #137: After failing to find a quality official video for "Middle Of The Road," I went with this live performance of the song from Live Aid 1985. Very cool and very energetic! After the dismissal and passing of founding members Pete Farndon in 1982 and 1983, as well as the passing of legendary guitarist James Honeyman-Scott in 1982, Chrissie Hynde, along with the last founding member Martin Chambers, after piecing together a lineup to finish 1982, finalized a more permanent lineup with Robbie McIntosh and Malcolm Foster and released 1983's "Middle Of The Road," peaking at #19 on the US Charts. However, this lineup would also prove to be impermanent, as shortly after this performance, Chambers would also get the boot, leaving Chrissie Hynde the last original Pretender pretending. D80sV #136: Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers - You Got Lucky

Daily 80's Video #136: Wow! Never seen this one before. One of those quintessential 80's story videos. What's the story? Um. Okay, so, um, "Future" Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers have traveled down the road to the past, where they discovered the present, or future past, with a little boom box, TV, and of course, well, their past selves. Makes perfect sense. And they're obviously lucky they found their past selves, because not only is good love hard to find, but so is finding their past selves. And yet, - spoiler alert - some things may be better left in the past. Get some D80sV merch. Or maybe curl up with a good ebook. Go to next D80sV. Go to first D80sV.

D80sV #135: Enuff Z' Nuff - Fly High Michelle

Daily 80's Video #135: Always one of my favorite Hair Band era songs, "Fly High Michelle" has a surprisingly poignant message about excess and suicide, which was somewhat apropos, since the 80's, though they were obviously magical, they were also decadent - I'm looking at you, Gordon Gekko. So, as the party was winding down, who knows, maybe it was time for somebody to say enough is enough. And who better than a band named Enuff Z' Nuff, with their rainbows and peace signs, to do the honors. Get some D80sV merch. Or maybe curl up with a good ebook. Go to next D80sV. Go to first D80sV.

D80sV #134: Bryan Ferry - Is Your Love Strong Enough

Daily 80's Video #134: Okay, so you can hardly blame Bryan Ferry for obsessing over Mia Sara. I mean, who didn't obsess at least a little over Mia Sara in the 80's? Even Ferris Bueller couldn't help himself, having to take a whole day off just to prove his love for her. Still, you can't help but root for Ferry in this video, despite the fact that Ferry is 22 years Sara's senior, and despite the fact that if Ferry persists in this most perilous pursuit, he risks eternal damnation at the hands and monstrously long horns of the Lord Of Darkness, AKA the big red dude in Legend (1985) - small price to pay for love. Get some D80sV merch. Or maybe curl up with a good ebook. Go to next D80sV. Go to first D80sV.
